VISTA Program
AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members provide one year of full-time service to over 1,200 non-profit, faith-based, and other community organizations and public agencies throughout the country in an effort to alleviate poverty in the communities they serve.
Positions
Current AmeriCorps VISTA positions at GHCC include:
- Central Baltimore Partnership Coordinator (Neighborhood and Economic Development) Mobilize residents, businesses, nonprofits, and local institutions in the Central Baltimore area! Work to connect residents looking to improve their housing and/or employment to relevant resources and information. Work to strengthen neighborhood, program, and organizations by bringing different community representatives together.
- Alliance Development Coordinator Work closely with the Greater Homewood Interfaith Alliance. Work to develop resources and engage church members in numerous projects of the Greater Homewood Interfaith Alliance (GHIA). Also build the capacity of GHIA through grantwriting and fundraising.
- Community Connections Coordinator
(Public Education Programs/Neighborhood and Economic Development)
Strengthen relationships between neighborhoods and their schools. Work to build collaborations between neighborhood residents and associations, public schools, businesses, and local educational, faith, and health institutions. Enhance parent and community involvement in schools. Empower families and other residents to get more involved in their neighborhoods. Serve as a link between the school and the surrounding community to address specific needs and issues of common concern. - Community Resource Coordinator
(Neighborhood and Economic Development Program)
Create positive change in neighborhoods through project development. Work with community organizations and partnering programs to develop resources for targeting neighborhoods. Recruit and coordinate community volunteers to support partnering programs. - Public Safety Coordinator
(Neighborhood and Economic Development Program)
Aid residents in taking back ownership of their neighborhoods. Reach out to residents to help build working relationships between themselves and non-resident stakeholders (schools, businesses, churches, police, etc.) to identify and implement strategies to address needs. Work with a diverse group of city agencies and community organizations to implement crime prevention. - Youth Development Coordinator
(Neighborhood and Economic Development Program)
Promote educational, recreational, and enriching youth programs. Involve youth in their healthy development and in the revitalization of their schools and communities by working with youth providers. Create resources to help encourage school success, community involvement, service, and leadership for youth. - Senior Resource Coordinator
(Neighborhood and Economic Development Program)
Help improve the lives of Greater Homewood’s 9,000 older residents. Conduct community outreach efforts to assess the needs of Greater Homewood’s older population. Work with community organizations, private and public agencies, and other groups to develop sustainable resources. - Member Support Coordinator
(Experience Corps)
Support the goals of Experience Corps in Baltimore to improve academic and behavioral outcomes for elementary-aged children. Collaborate with Experience Corps staff to develop resources used for recruitment. Provide relevant trainings for Experience Corps members on computers, health, and techniques to work with children. - Special Literacy Projects Coordinator
(Adult Literacy and ESOL Program)
Work to organize resources and events in support of the Adult Literacy and ESOL Program. Conduct outreach to neighborhoods to determine areas for program expansion and recruitment. Generate new partnerships and resources in support of the program. - VISTA Leader
(General Management)
Lead a team of 10 to 12 AmeriCorps VISTAs. Provide support and resources to the Greater Homewood VISTA team. Work closely with the Executive Director while gaining fundraising, training, peer mentoring, public relations and community development experience. You must have completed a term of AmeriCorps VISTA service to be eligible for the VISTA Leader position.
