Neighborhood & Economic Development Program

Waverly Main Street

Waverly Main Street (WMS), the lively business district along Greenmount Avenue between 28th and 35th Streets and side street blocks on both sides, was designated a Main Street in 2000 by the National Trust Main Street Center and is one of nine participants in Baltimore Main Streets. WMS was named a 2007 Accredited National Main Street Program by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Baltimore Main Streets for meeting performance standards in 2006.

WMS plays an important role in GHCC’s mission to strengthen neighborhoods by applying the Main Street approach to promote economic development and community revitalization. The volunteer-driven program is facilitated with assistance from Baltimore Development Corporation in efforts to improve safety, sanitation and code enforcement, as well as funding and design services for building renovations in the Waverly downtown area.

A walk down Waverly Main Street reveals innovative building façade improvements, new signage, and exciting new businesses. Other entrepreneurs are working with WMS to locate suitable space for their venture and to explore funding options.
