General Information

Greater Homewood Community Corporation (GHCC) will be hosting the 2nd Annual Neighborhood Institute on Saturday, November 15, 2008. FREE to all community leaders, activists and residents, the day will consist of panels and workshops that focus on skills and resources needed to improve and sustain our neighborhoods.

In addition to receiving valuable training, the Neighborhood Institute will give you an opportunity to listen to and ask questions of Baltimore leaders. Our opening panel will feature Police Commissioner Frederick Bealefeld, Laura Weeldryer, Deputy Director of the Baltimore City Public School System, Mark Sissman, President of Healthy Neighborhoods, Valentina Ukwuoma, Director of the Bureau of Solid Waste, and Sarah Zaleski, Coordinator of the Baltimore Office of Sustainability. These leaders will discuss what they are doing to sustain and strengthen Baltimore neighborhoods, and their remarks will be followed by a moderated Q&A session.

The 2nd Annual Neighborhood Institute will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Charles Commons Conference Center. The entrance to the Center is located on 33rd Street, between Charles and St. Paul Streets, in Charles Village. The address of the Charles Commons Conference Center is 10 E. 33rd Street, Baltimore, MD 21218.

Transportation and Parking

The Neighborhood Institute is accessible via the No. 11 and 64 bus. There is metered parking in the immediate vicinity. Free 2-hour parking is available on the service lane along Charles Street, on St. Paul Street below 31st Street, and along most of Calvert, Guilford, 32nd and 33rd Streets. Free unlimited parking is available along St. Paul, Calvert, and Guilford Streets, below 29th Street, and along 39th Street - these areas are about a 5 block walk from the Charles Commons Conference Center. However, we encourage you to walk, carpool, or use public transportation, as these are primarily residential areas with already heavy parking demand.

Free childcare will be provided from 9:30 to 4:30.
