Community Economic Development Program
Healthy Neighborhoods
Healthy Neighborhoods is a unique approach to neighborhood revitalization that relies on neighborhood assets and strong resident organizational leadership to create neighborhoods of choice in strong but undervalued communities. Healthy Neighborhoods uses a combination of marketing, organizing, and low interest loans to build wealth for long-term residents, forge stronger connections among neighbors, attract buyers, and create positive neighborhood images.
In 2005, GHCC began administering the Healthy Neighborhoods program in the Ednor Gardens-Lakeside and Charles Village communities. In the summer of 2007, GHCC’s Healthy Neighborhoods program expanded to include the Waverly and Remington neighborhoods. Our current Healthy Neighborhoods programs include home purchase, refinance and improvement loans, funds for small scale block projects, and a capital grant program for large-scale neighborhood improvement projects.
