Community Economic Development Program

Overview

Greater Homewood Community Corporation's Community Economic Development Program (CED) is working daily to support the neighborhoods and commercial districts of north central Baltimore (Greater Homewood). We strengthen the real estate market, improve the appearance of commercial and residential properties, encourage homeowner investment, and foster business district development.

We envision a Greater Homewood comprised of stable neighborhoods served by vibrant commercial districts throughout. Although we work throughout north central Baltimore, we recognize a number of priority areas where economic development efforts will have the greatest impact. These include the Healthy Neighborhoods target areas of Charles Village, Ednor Gardens-Lakeside, Remington, and Waverly Village, as well as the commercial districts of Greenmount Avenue, North Charles Street, Central Baltimore, Old Goucher, Station North, and York Road.

CED partners with neighborhoods, institutions, and businesses.  We utilize tools like grant and loan programs, strategic code enforcement, community activities, and long-running partnerships with city and state agencies to revitalize neighborhoods and their commercial districts. We strive to ensure all residents and business owners have access to the resources they need, from funds for façade improvements to loans for rehabbing a home. We constantly keep our fingers on the pulse of development within Greater Homewood's boundaries, working with business groups and neighborhood associations to keep members informed and involved - and advocating community priorities to investors and Baltimore City agencies.

The Community Economic Development Program administers a number of special initiatives that put concentrated effort into geographic and program areas of utmost importance to our neighborhoods:
