New Research on Experience Corps and Student Achievement

A new research study from Washington University in St. Louis is showing that Experience Corps makes a big difference in students' academic performance.

The two-year study followed 800 first, second, and third grade students in 23 schools in three cities.  Those with Experience Corps mentors demonstrated an increase of about 60% in some critical reading skills compared to those without Experience Corps mentors.

Experience Corps is a national program that places volunteers over 55 in elementary school classrooms.  GHCC is proud to administer Experience Corps in Baltimore City, serving 7,000 children in 19 schools.
