GHCC’s 5th Annual Neighborhood Institute: Love Where You Live, is all about learning what you can do to build and strengthen vibrant urban neighborhoods. Join us on Saturday, March 24 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Inn at the Colonnade for this exciting series of informative workshops, led by Baltimore’s best and brightest activists, artists, educators, and leaders.

WORKSHOPS:

Transforming Schools
Join Jimmy Stuart of Child First Authority and Jenn DiFrancesco of Charles Village Parents for pointers on how to effectively advocate for strong public schools.

Event Planning 101
Master event planners John Spurrier and John McLane of The Charles Village Festival will share tips and tricks for planning and executing successful parties, festivals, and fundraisers.

Advocating For Your Neighborhood
Local attorney and Charles Village resident Sharon Guida will share legal strategies for identifying and abating problem properties that negatively impact quality of life and property values.

Energy Efficiency
Join Ben Jakubowski of Neighborhood Design Center for some easy ways to save energy in nearly every home. Your wallet will thank you for coming.

Creating Community Art
Learn how to engage local artists and arts organizations in projects that beautify neighborhoods with Ben Stone of Station North Arts and Entertainment District and Julie Lin of The Maryland Institute College of Art.

Community Greening
Learn how to build community gardens, pocket parks, and green spaces with Miriam Avins of Baltimore Green Space and Master Gardener Jenny Kaurinki.

Block Captain Training
Well-organized blocks are the strongest blocks. Our veteran organizers here at GHCC will lead you through the basics of canvassing, leading meetings, and conducting the kind of effective outreach that strengthens and unifies neighborhoods.

Neighborhood Leaders Forum
Join your fellow neighborhood leaders for this opportunity to connect, share best practices, and discuss common quality of life concerns. Led by GHCC staff.
